Insurance Information:

I am an out-of-network provider for insurance, which means you are responsible for payment at the time of your appointment. However, you may have out-of-network benefits, meaning your insurance company may reimburse you for a percentage of your counseling fee. I am happy to provide you with a receipt in the form of a Superbill to submit to your insurance company. If you would like to request reimbursement, I encourage you to call the number on the back of your insurance card to find out about your out-of-network benefits.

Why might you choose not to use insurance for therapy?

1. No financial surprises. Insurance companies often deny claims for mental health services. When you know the cost & pay up front, you don’t have to experience the dreaded surprise bill. You can save money in the form of a Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), or other arrangement.

2. Individualized treatment according to your needs. Insurance companies dictate crucial parts of therapy, like the frequency and length of visits, what we discuss in session, and how we work toward your goals. Because life is messy & progress is often not linear, I value flexibility throughout the counseling process.

3. Privacy. Insurance companies require a diagnosis that goes on your permanent health records. If privacy is important to you, you may not want to be labeled in this way. You’re a unique, whole person - not a disorder - and I’ll treat you as such.

4. Choice. Insurance companies decide who you can see as a mental health provider based on their panel of options. When you invest in therapy, it’s empowering to know that you’ve chosen to value your health & wellbeing, and you’ve selected your counselor because they’re the right one for you.

5. Motivation for Change. When you’re paying a professional to support you and can clearly see the amount you’re investing in your growth, you’re often more motivated to show up fully during and between sessions. You may feel more driven to make necessary changes because you know what you’re spending. It speaks to your inner values and belief in yourself when you budget your time, money, and energy to make it work regardless.

Good Faith Estimate Notice

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the No Surprises Act, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 368-1019.
